Pre-Pregnancy
Some factors influence the allergic risk of your child even before you are pregnant.
Genetics
Generally, something that you have limited control over other than selecting your partner.
Just know that maternal and paternal allergies increase the risk of allergies in their offspring. Both parents having allergies increases the risk more than just one parent.(20, 21)
Remember, exposures have a lot more to do with allergies than genetics.
Weight
It is not healthy to lose weight during pregnancy, and you will be limited in the amount of weight you can lose during healthy breastfeeding, so your weight at this phase will carry throughout all phases of influence!
Children born to mothers who are obese have a greater risk of developing allergies.10
Establishing a healthy weight before becoming pregnant can diminish the risk for your child.
